4 Frame Nucleus Colony - 2024 (Overwintered & Spring)

One of our main objectives is to provide premium, locally produced nucleus colonies (nuc). To do that we also rear our own queens in central Alberta. We take great pride and care in making sure our queens and nucs are top quality. 

Our nucleus colonies are made up of 4 deep frames of bees, brood, honey and pollen. A young, laying and mated queen will be in each nuc. You will receive the nuc in a cardboard transport box that is only used for temporary accommodations. We recommend transferring the nuc to a full Langstroth hive as soon as possible. The nuc will build up quickly on a nectar flow or by being fed.

Overwintered VS Spring Nucs

Overwintered nucs are colonies that were made up in summer with local queen stock and then have successfully survived our harsh Alberta winter to be sold in the spring.  They have proven themselves to be winter hardy colonies with an established queen and this makes them highly desirable. Most of the nucs we sell are these overwintered colonies. Spring nucs on the other hand are colonies made up and sold in the same spring. Their potential has yet to be proven.  

Nucleus colonies are for Pick Up Only.

Overwintered nucs are available for pick up starting mid May. Spring nucs are available for pick up starting early June. These times may vary as each season is unpredictable.
